Katy Haber and David Payne were delighted to join students from Jordan and Washington High Schools in the 5K wheelchair walk/run as part of the 2008 L.A. Marathon.
We pushed 86 year old jazz legend BUDDY COLLETTE, who has been in a wheelchair since his stroke, along with wheelchair-bound students from the aforementioned High Schools.
The walk was to bring awareness to the Fight against DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY.
Also joining us on the walk was DENZEL WHITAKER, star of the Movie “THE GREAT DEBATERS”.

With continued and strengthened commitment to aiding the plight of the Homeless in Los Angeles and nationwide (see The Body and "Doomed Village"), Katy Haber and David Payne have expanded Nomad’s community work to include the introduction of cricket to LA's inner-city schools.
Under the auspices of LA's BEST, an after school program run out of the Mayor's Office, Katy and David initially introduced the sport to six Elementary Schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (Allesandro, Aragon, Hillcrest, La Salle, Pacoima and Utah), culminating in a tournament held at Mulholland Middle School in June 2007.

"Together joined in cricket's manly toil... All, all that brother should be, but the name..." -- Lord Byron 1807
On July 6th 2007, we invited the Australian 'All-Star' cricket team, (including a number of first-class, and international players) to visit Pacoima Elementary School, where they held a cricket clinic with 120 eager and grateful students.
Due to the success of this trial program, LA's BEST/Nomad hope to expand the sport into as many of the 108 Elementary Schools in the LAUSD as possible. In fact, at a meeting held with LA'S BEST on Sept 11th, it was agreed we would expand the Cricket Program into 14 LAUSD Elementary Schools this year. Since then, Nomad has introduced a specially adapted version of "quick cricket " into 68th Ave, Broad, Clifford, Dorris, Euclid, Fenton, Figueroa, Fletcher, Kittridge, La Salle, Monlux, Pacoima, Sunrise & Telfair schools, culminating in a "quick cricket" tournament at Mulholland on Dec 8th.
